André Bakker

I was born in the Netherlands, where at a young age I started developing and printing in my father's darkroom. The infatuation became a love affair when, after secondary school, I moved onto Art school, ostensibly to become an art teacher. The camera kept calling, however, so I moved to Amsterdam learning from a few of the best masters in the field.

Eventually, I opened my own studio focusing on a potent mix of editorial work and commercial advertising, often working for film and music magazines and Film festivals. This period resulted in an extraordinary menagerie of people and places, including internationally famous actors, film-directors and musicians.

A few years ago I met my Greek wife, so part of the year I live in beautiful Greece.
Here I work for national and international editorial, advertising and travel companies.

In 2006 the book: Around Greece in 80 Stays was launched. Together with writer Jacoline Vinke I made a book about great small hotels in Greece. (ISBN nr: 960-8189-72-1)

At the moment I am producing 2 new books:
-
A book with portraits of the elderly villagers of Zagoria (Northern Greece) and their relationship with nature and vise versa.
See gallery: Faces in Stone
-
And a book about Rou: An abandoned village in the north of Corfu.
Together with architect Dominic Skinner I am producing a book about the history of the Rou Estate.
In this book we try to show Dominic s vision on the symbiosis between the Greek, the Venetian and his today view on architecture.
